The world in nutshell (Live in Dormitory)

(Un)fortunately I've came back for good to my hometown, Indonesia. And I could finally understand some people who refuse to come back after years they spent outside their hometown. It's not that you lose your love toward your own nation, but it simply what human do. Because you have already get used to the place you used to live, and it is not easy to get adapted again even in the place you claim you knew like the back of your hand. Because they have probably changed

So don't get mad if next time you heard people change their nationality, or simply decide to live outside their hometown. They don't betray anything or anyone, they just simply choosing what's best for them, and what they can do best for the place they live in. And that's actually what human should do. Because no matter where you live, or whomever you encounter, you are still human in this very place we called world.

It's true that as human with brain we understand what we know as culture and tradition. And these are also what differentiate us from another person, therefore it is said that culture represent our identity. Probably this is also the reason why people tend to go back to where they come from. Because what you've learnt when you were a child, become your identity, and it usually sticks with you wherever you go.

But we still are all human-beings. And among zillion of stars in the universe, we're lucky enough to share a beautiful planet called the earth. Although we were all made in different shape and size, and we have different cultures and principal, we could always find the similarity between us. That we share the world we live in, and we are all human-beings.

I got this metaphor once I knew that I probably never had any chance again to live in a dormitory, A very strict dormitory where sometimes it doesn't feel like home at all, but then you realize you don't have nothing but this place. I realized that having lived in a dormitory in 4 years makes me think of how the world and the human beings should work.

First, Strangers.
we live in a small room with 4 people inside. You have no idea who are these people are, their background, identity, whatsoever. Although we hate the fact that we have to share our daily life with strangers, but this is also what we do in the world. The strangers are everywhere and sometimes, strangers are just family we don't know yet.

Second, Different way of living.
you will learn their habit and everything. I once have a roommate who continuously fart in her sleep, and another story, I have to encounter a roommate who sleep more than 12 hours per day. In this world we always meet different people with their annoying habit, but sometimes you can not avoid it. Thing is you can not use what you believe to kick this person out of your room, because at the end of the day, she or he owns the fucking right to stay in that room. Just like we all human have right to have and stay in our home. No matter how you hate them, or how annoying they are, or maybe they just speak in different language that sounds gibberish to you, You don't own the right to kick them out!

Third, regulation and tolerance.
You will notice that sometimes you could not be family with the person in the room. Though you were living together, you just could not accept them to be your close friends. It is normal, but you still can't use this reason to take their right to live in the room. Just like you are not to bother and disturb people who have different opinion with you. And this is therefore why you need regulation and also tolerance. Law doesn't necessarily made to be broken, but law and regulation are just a limit to remind us that we don't live alone in this world, and for this case in this room. You could sit together with your roommates, discuss what's best for each of you. And remember that regulation were made by human, and is therefore should be tolerated once human encounter with many exceptions.

Fourth, privacy and don't bother!
You may live with four or more strangers in your room... we also live in this world with million strangers, but it is a must to know that each person has their own privacy. And this is what we have to understand. Don't be too nosy with other people's businesses, and also their properties. And if you really have to know or to borrow things from them, ask them!

It might be not 100% similar with what we experience in a real world. But instead of fighting because we have different perspective, why don't we accept the fact that we are different.

Last week I watched a typical discussion happened in Indonesia. Some people use the law based on their religion and repeatedly remind us what should people in that particular religion do. But why so inclusive? Don't they know that in Indonesia, there are more than thousands people maybe who have different religion? So next time when you encounter with people with different perspective, instead of stating your perfect principal, why don't we just see that these people are also human with all the right we also have. Instead of talking between people from different nationalities, race, and religion, why don't we all talk from human to human?

Isn't that true that we are all human and share the same world?
