Is our day job more than self-slavery? When we're locked watching the clock impatiently. We sweat for the dollar bills, the checks and the credit cards. But the dollar kills, breaks the necks of our inner hearts. -Lesson One, Epik HighI work part time as, what we like to call ourselves, a janitor, whose job is to make sure everything's clean before the class begin at 6.30 in the evening. I have to clean the blackboard, take all the garbage and throw it away. I have to make sure that the computer, the light, and the fan is off.
And before this, I had this job, to take the garbage from every floor's bathroom, this job, needs a little bit courage, for you would see the least expected things, like human's feces and woman's menstrual blood haha :D
Well I do it everyday, and I earned money from it, and I could survive to second to third week of every month. And I'm proud of it. Although some people would tell me this, "You go abroad, and get good education there, and why would you end up as janitor?" Tho, it's just a part time.
Here, I don't want to name names, but one day, we have conversation about food. And how I wish somebody could sell indonesian food here in Taiwan like Martabak, Bakwan Jagung, or Sate. But this friend of mine told me, 'i have master degree. it's kinda funny if I only end up selling Martabak'
And people who today I saw got many degrees, 'it's funny when he only become owner of the small restaurant in the future.'
hmm hmm, lemme get this straight, what is wrong being food-seller and janitor? and do you guys get good education ONLY to get a good job? and by the way, what is then a description of bad and good job?
I love studying and learning new things, but ever since I hit the school, I never think that in the future, I have to have a good job, for I have good education. I always like to have good education, but I never did it for degree to either find a job or prestige in the future. The only thing why I tend to get good education is because I like to learn, and I want to know what's happening in this world. that's why i refuse education that favors the governments.
So, having a good job or good career with good position and good salary is not the thing I aim to do after finish my education. And what is it, good and bad job?
Many people are making list about what is a good job and what's a bad job. And certainly they think janitor and food-seller is a bad job, for they think, it need less intelligence and they earned less money than those who work in a great company, who maybe could cause more damage to either environment or humanity. And these janitors, whose work is to clean up the mess, are consider as a bad job. And by this we should be ashamed if we only end up as janitor whose work is even more better than the company that maybe cause damage.
Well maybe I think about it a little bit too over, and not all great company caused damage. But I believe that many people wants more money, and therefore for them humanity and environment are less worthy than profit. hmm, what I mean is, sometimes our eyes are deceived, we can't tell good from bad. and in fact we make wrong description and believe in our own determination and never give space to another possibility that could happen in between.
as behalf of a part time janitor, I want to say that, it's nothing to be ashamed of, if you work as janitor, or maybe you have no position at all, because those who have, what they believe as a good job, and be in a good position, doesn't mean that they are good people who do good things!
A good job for me is still a job, that match your skill and also your heart. You want to do this because you know you're capable, and you LIKE to do it, and therefore you could be fully-responsible to the society and yourself, and to the humanity.
Don't choose a good job, because people think it is, but you dont wanna do it, but you have to do it, you are intrigued by the salary, but later, you're being slaved by the money you aim.
Be wise, people, even you're a janitor :D
