Dirgahayu Republik Indonesia
Teach you something about freedom i've heard from the song by kings of convenience.
The title is :
Freedom and its Owner
The beauty memories of all the places
Of all the places
We've captured with our camera
We've seen the pyramids
We've seen the Louvre
We've seen the Orion upside down
Total eclipses and moonlight shadows
We've seen dolphins jumping waves
we've ski'ed the mountains and we swam in the rivers
and let the sunlight dry our skins
but freedom, freedom never greater than its owner
freedom is the mastery of the known
freedom, freedom never greater than its owner
no view is wider than the eye
show a view to someone who chose to live his whole life in cave
he'll raise his arms to protect his eyes from burning
and the blindness to which he belongs
this time it's me, it's me
cascades of chances I'll just let them be
the unfamiliar is right below our eyes
don't look for what we know
the unfamiliar is right below our eyes
but freedom, freedom never greater than its owner
freedom is the mastery of the known
freedom, freedom never greater than its owner
no view is wider than the eye

What I think about this song
'freedom never greater than its owner, freedom is the mastery of the known'
from my point of view; and that freedom is never greater than its owner, means the more you know or learn about something or enrich you with many points of views from around the world, the more you have your own freedom. but freedom is like the ability to know how to control and use the knowledge or everything you have already known.
'no view is wider than the eye' and followed by 'show a view to someone who chose to live his whole life in a cave, he'll raise his arms to protect his eyes from burning and the blindness to which he belongs'
from my point of view; that all knowledge we have learned and seen around the world is to be understood by our own point of view. so it is possible that sometimes we could not understand someone's point of view for we only accept what we want to accept.
for example, the next lyric, a man who has adapted by his habitat (cave), would never accept the great view, which he been shown to. he chose to do whatever he could to protect himself from the view.
'the unfamiliar is right below our eyes, don't look for what we know'
from my point of view; sometimes we choose to keep our eyes closed for what we can not accept, and choose what our eyes could see. so that we have to look further, or we have to look without our eyes, for something we haven't known yet.
What I learn from this song
From this song, I learn that we haven't got 'full freedom' that we should have since the independence day. For some people in my country closed their eyes to other's point of view. They just want to be understood without the willing of understand others.
So the freedom of speech they're talking about, is like the freedom to say what they're thinking but they haven't learned to appreciate other's freedom of speech.
and some people closed their eyes, protecting their eyes forever from the 'great view' because they only believe in what they want to believe without knowing the fact that there are many things beside what they have already known.
and what's important about this country and not all people have the right to have knowledge. and therefore people make use of these people! sadly!
So for me, freedom is the wisdom to do something freely by considering the consequences and freedom is also the right to choose what we want to believe by not closing our eyes to the unfamiliar. Wisdom is the willing to hear, learn, and understand many point of views, and the ability to choose what's best for people, without violate other people's right.
Back to the topic...
So, today, ive seen many congratulations words from some of my friends on facebook and twitter. and many many of them claim their nationalism and how they are proud for being indonesian. people's pray and hope for indonesia to be a better country in the future.
but ive also seen people who point fingers on each other's faces, and no one, no one wants to take the blame, but keep on saying that Indonesia is bad, and there's nothing to be proud of, and leave.
Talking about the nationalism, ive seen that some people showing one by posting picture of them wearing 'damn i love indonesia' t-shirt. i wouldnt say that there's wrong to wear the shirt and to claim how much love they have for Indonesia. but i hate the fact that some people wearing the t-shirt without contributing to the people of Indonesia.
When our ancestor claim the independence of Indonesia, I'm sure that the people are united because they have the same Needs to be free from imperialism. Despite of the difference culture and religion, they still have something similar in their heart that makes them unite. But 67 years later after the idealism to have a independence country, the people stop holding hand, the people prefer one religion to other, the people forget the reasons why our ancestor wants to be free from imperialism.
and im sure that it has nothing to do to the other country, for other country is just another country, but imperialism is different.
people in Indonesia forget this and put their private life before the feeling of nationalism a united nation must have. Nation and country would be nothing without its people. So instead of pointing fingers on each other, why don't we stand and take a chance, for we are the people!
Some wars are good, there are definitely some inevitable war. but some people choose war when they could have peace.
It reminds me of another song from kings of convenience titled
Peacetime Resistance
Feeling the comfort of eyes is your sole intention
We all wanna be understood unconditionally
But you have to realize that a viewer needs distance
And the moment your wall melts down the inside is outside
Maybe way back in the past, when people were different
Shortening bonds made them last
Now we emphasize our difference
We have been enrolled one by one for peacetime resistance
And we're fighting our battles alone
We've got four eyes, so why yearn for one perspective?
We've got colours with shades erased when blended
We've got four eyes, so why yearn for one perspective?
We've got colours, but they disappear when blended
What I learn from this song
People should really stop emphasizing differences we have, for we can not avoid the fact that people are different. 'we've got four eyes, so why yearn for one perspective.' we have fucking 5 different religion so why bother blending people with only one religion.
we have before this a shortening bonds that made our ancestor holding hands and made their togetherness last. but we are now claiming ourselves and what we have is better than others. Because of this, we, one by one, should take the blame for we refuse to choose peace when we have the right to choose and make war instead. and also because of this, we have forgotten each other and fight with each other.

I've read yahoo news daily, and the comments always turn me off, no matter what the news is, it's always about the government's fault. Like I have said, our people are always pointing fingers on the government.
and speaking of politic, i have one last song to this, also sang by kings of convenience. the title is;
Rule My World
You set yourself above
that all forgiving god
you claim that you believe in
your kind is gonna fall
your ship is sinking fast
and all your able men are leaving
only someone
who's morally
superior can possibly
and honestly deserve
to rule my world
I talk before I think
You shoot before you know
who's in your line of fire
so somehow we're the same
we're causing people pain
but I stand and take the blame
you scramble to deny it
only someone
who's morally
superior can possibly
and honestly deserve
only someone
who's morally
superior can possibly
and honestly deserve
to rule my world (10x)
explain to me one more time
when they kill it's a crime
when you kill it is justice

what i learn from the song
the meaning is obvious. all i could say is, in our democratic society when people could choose their leader, we have to consider about the morality of the leader, not the fucking religion they have! end of saying!
Conclusion
Indonesia, 67 years ago, was born to fulfill hope of its people. and we are the descendants of our ancestor. Though we have the right to choose, but i hope that if you have chosen to be a proud of indonesian people, be one! and the country without the people would be nothing. Indonesia without the consciousness of its people that we are responsible to our own future, would be nothing. would never be something.
So wake up you guys. Your prayer and claim would be in vain if you never do something to this country!
